This documentary (in Spanish but subtitles available in English) takes us to the river restoration efforts and monitoring of Atlantic salmon populations in the river Bidasoa.
For years, biologists and environmental agents have been studying the decline of salmon populations by tagging, marking, measuring and counting fish, and their findings are clear: Atlantic salmon populations in the Iberian peninsula are on the brink of extinction. Due to warming waters, habitat degradation and widespread presence of barriers to free flow, the long-stanting and emblematic presence of this species in Spain’s rivers is threatened, despite re-stocking efforts having persisted for more than 40 years.
